I settle in Aix en Provence in mid-October 2004. My first impressions of the city were terrible: it rained very hard all the days. Traffic jams! And everywhere are the posters about Cézanne. It seemed that the city has nothing but Cézanne! But I soon changed my mind when I had time to go around the city.

First of all, as in the logo of the city and of course in several Cézanne's master pieces, we see the Sainte Victoire mountain. The mountain is not far from my apartment, only about 40 minutes by bike. That is a small mountain of about 1000m above the see. It is said that the mountain changes its colors with the weather. For instance, the mountain is red in the sunrise and sunset; blue during the morning, yellow or orange in mid-day and violet in the evening. Perhaps! I think that the white color of the rock is the origin of the effect.

Aix en Provence, the capital of the region of Provence, as Pau of Béarn or Toulouse of Languedoc, is rich in traditional values. The monuments, architecture, public fountains everywhere, etc are the most remarkable feature of the region.
