Quang Trung Emperor's statue

Emperor Quang Trung, whose name is Nguyen Hue, is one of the most outstanding kings in Vietnamese history. Born in a farmer family in Tay Son (near the center highland), grew during the North-South war, with his brothers and their popular movement, he managed to reunified the country with landslides series of victories.

As the young general of Tay Son movement (he first commanded the troops at age of 19), Nguyen Hue succeeded to apply his strategies and tactics in every battle against any enemy. His strategy is to isolate his most dangerous enemy while avoid to cope with many forces at the same time and then attack surprisingly at the most vulnerable units to gain the victory. A genius general, after the art of war principles, is a general "who can mobilize his power where his enemy couldn't anticipate, who can take control anywhere that his enemy couldn't counter-attack, who can attack anywhere that his enemy couldn't defend, who can occupy anywhere that his enemy couldn't advance". A genius general should be a general "who can destroy the will of his enemy even before the battles" and "once using his forces, no enemy could withstand" and "his enemy should always be kept in fear for his presence, even for his spirit for a long time later". With his victories over the invader and the opposing troops, could we conclude that he is really a genius general?

In 1789, the kingdom of Dai Viet was invaded by about 200000 troops of Qing dynasty. After a strategic retreat from Thang Long (the capital) to settle further to the south organized by Ngo Thi Nham, Nguyen Hue launched a powerful offensive during the Tet - new year days with a promise to his men that they could liberate Thang Long in 7 days. Surprised and awed by the sudden series of attacks, the Qing's troops were defeated definitively in right 7 days!

The statue of Quang Trung emperor is at Dong Da Knoll - one of his most famous military victories against the invaders.
